February 2014

Typically, February is rainy, cold, and miserably boring month with cabin fever. This year is different. San Francisco and Bay Area are having spring-like weather this winter; on the other hand Southeast and Northeast are paralyzed with heavy snow, ice and massive power outages.

Why did I start photo journal on this blog? Guess what; The older I get, the more I’m aware of the perversity of the human mind. I mean, I forget what I want to remember. And then, I just remember what’s utterly useless.

YokohamaGaijinAt Russian Festival, I asked a man to take a picture of me. He responded in fluent Japanese. He said he immediately detected my Japanese accent.

He is an author of “Yokohama Gaijin: Memoir of a foreigner born in Japan”.

Check it out his facebook:

Yokohama Gaijin is George Lavrov’s personal story, told from his own eyewitness account. It recounts the horror of WWII carpet bombings of Japanese cities, including the tragic loss of his elder brother, Konstantin, who was killed instantly when a bomb from an American B-29 bomber made a direct hit on the Lavrov residence in Yokohama, Japan, on May 29th, 1945, the harsh wartime treatment of gaijin (foreign) residents of Japan and much more. It is the true story of a stateless White Russian and his family, as they coped through some of the most difficult times of the 20th century–the WWII period in Japan and the postwar years that followed. But it’s also a story of faith and hope in the future–a future that spelled A M E R I C A and a successful career in the international business world.”

Feb. 26. It is rain today (much-needed rain, drought relief ?)  Here is some jokes on you.

Joke #1:

Joe had his checkup. Doc told his wife, fix nutritious meal 3 times a day, make sure he is in a good mood, don’t burden him with chores, and satisfy his every whim. If you can do this for the next 10 months, I think your husband will regain his health completely.

Joe asked his wife, “What did the doc say?” She replied, “You’re going to die”!

Joke #2:

I was teaching the names of animals to a class of preschool. I held up a picture of a deer, and asked Billy. He said, “I don’t know.” So I gave him hint, “Well, Billy, what does your Mommy call your Daddy?”

He asked me, “Is that really a pig?”

Joke #3:

“A woman without her man is nothing.” Please, punctuate it correctly,

“A woman, without her man, is nothing.” (INCORRECT)
“A woman: without her, man is nothing.” (CORRECT)
